Hip Hop Music- How it effects Youth/Society
If Hip Hop has the ability to corrupt minds, it can also hold the same power to be able to uplift!
Ever since the rise of rap and hip-hop music, teens have been turning to them to help solve their problems. However, these kinds of music can be very destructive to teens. It is not the youth’s fault, it is the content that the music contains. Although rap and hip-hop music can be a force for good, they can also have an extremely negative impact on the attitudes and behaviors of American youth

Real Hip Hop Builds Minds
Much of the hip hop we hear on corporate radio is not reflective of the true essence of the art. The underground scene provides great literary criticism of society and injustice. It helps to elevate the understanding and teaches people how, not what to think. No other music is like hip hop in this regard, and unfortunately many people are oblivious to this.
Personally, I would like to see more storytelling and positive music played on the radio because a lot of people listen to the radio on a regular basis with their children in the car, they play songs about degrading women, sex, strippers, shooting, etc. I believe that if they started playing positive, uplifting music that it may help the society and help mold the youth a littler better.
So, why are youth being affected by these genres of music?
American youth are a target towards the marketers of rap and hip-hop; they are always influenced by the media and still trying to find their identity.
Rap and hip-hop music provides teens with a sense of belonging.
When a person looks up to or is influenced by a role model, they tend to do the things that person does. These teenagers tend to try and mimic their actions, ideas, the way they live, dress and act towards others. Don't get me wrong I love most rap and R&B music, but some of the newer stuff coming out now days is pretty degrading to women and talking about things that can negatively influence people listening to it.

Music Has Power Only if You Let It
In order for music to influence you, you have to let it have some power over you. A person who has a good head on their shoulders wouldn't be easily influenced by hip-hop. Not to mention, this person makes it sound like all hip-hop is bad. Not every single hip-hop artist sings about 'hoes' and stuff. Hip hop is just like everything else. There is a good hip-hop and there is bad hip-hop.
